Current Progress in TAVI (TAVR) Technologies
上妻 謙 (帝京大学医学部附属病院 循環器内科)
TAVI (TAVR) is a revolutional technology for the treatment of aortic stenosis. Mortality and rates of severe complication have been dramatically reduced recently as compared to the beginning phase of TAVI. Subsequently, indications of TAVI has been expanded in the United States and Europe. In Japan, TAVI was approved in 2013, and is gradually increasing. Although most of cases were treated safely in the first post-market cohort in Japan, several concerns have been raised, especially related to the small size of femoral arteries and severely calcified annulus. Newer generation devices successfully reduced their profiles and neurological protection devices have been developed. TAVI is undoubtedly progressing and promissing treatment for high risk aortic stenosis patients. We invite two world-famous experts from both United States and Japan to give us lectures and discussions about the current issues and future perspectives of TAVI.
